IFA 2008: EISA-Award winner Philips 42PFL9803 FlatTV
At the IFA 2008 in Berlin Philips showcased their brand new Philips 42PFL9803 FlatTV. Philips sets a new benchmark in LCD picture quality with the introduction of this astonishing 42PFL9803 FlatTV equipped with LED backlighting technology. The Philips 42PFL9803 FlatTV already won the prestigious EISA ‘European LCD-TV 2008-2009’ award. The new Philips 42PFL9803 FlatTV solves two of the most critical challenges in current LCD TV technology: black level and motion blur.
IFA 2008: Philips LED LUX
Until now LCD TVs had problems with displaying full black. This was caused by light leakage from pixels that couldn’t be turned off completely. The Philips 42PFL9803 FlatTV is the first LCD TV to be equipped with Philips unique LED local dimming backlight called LED LUX. The LED LUX system comprises of 128 segments of LED’s (1,152 LED’s in total), in 8 rows containing 16 segments. Nine LED’s are assigned to each individual segment and these LED’s can be individually dimmed to precisely control the output of each pixel.
IFA 2008: Philips 100Hz Clear LCD
To prevent the common problem of motion blurring Philips equipped the 42PFL9803 with a 100Hz Clear LCD with a 2 milliseconds response time. This creates extreme motion sharpness for clear and vibrant images even with fast on-screen motion. The Philips 42PFL9803 FlatTV uses the Double Frame Rate Insertion-technology that works at a high 100Hz refresh rate. This increases the sharpness of motion reproduction to more than twice that of conventional LCD.
